Ithaca

Ithaca, the island of legends and mythology, combines its rich history with unparalleled natural beauty. Known as the homeland of Odysseus from Homer’s Odyssey, Ithaca enchants visitors with its picturesque villages, hidden beaches with crystal-clear waters, and lush landscapes surrounding every corner of the island.

The island is famous for its traditional villages, such as Vathy, the island’s capital, located in a protected bay and serving as Ithaca’s main port. Narrow cobblestone streets, traditional cafes, and tavernas invite visitors to enjoy the authentic atmosphere of the island. Nearby is Perahori, where you can find the impressive forest of Afentikos Loggos. A little higher up are the medieval ruins of Paliochora, as well as the Marathia Plateau with the Arethusa Spring.

On the northern side of the island is Kioni, a picturesque village with stone houses and its beautiful harbor, reminiscent of Greece from the past. The well-preserved mansions and traditional coffee shops create a scene straight from another era.

The cultural wealth of Ithaca is evident through its museums, such as the Archaeological Museum and the Maritime and Folklore Museum. These museums house artifacts that testify to the island’s rich history and maritime tradition.

Ithaca also hosts various festivals and cultural events throughout the year. The most famous is the Homer Festival, which includes theatrical performances, music events, and lectures on Homer and the Odyssey. These festivals provide visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the local culture and enjoy traditional music and dances.
